Teseracto

Early twenty-first-century art movement

Teseracto is an early twenty-first-century art movement developed in Florida by the Franco-Argentine author Felipe Escobar Campos and the Franco-Uruguayan author Juan Martin Varela. It was strongly influenced by European avant-garde movements — particularly Cubism and Dadaism — and by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. The poets of Teseracto rejected the fin de siècle aesthetics of Spanish and Spanish-American modernism and experimented with the graphic and acoustic dimensions of poetry, emphasising rhythm over rhyme.

Origins

The origins of Teseracto go back to the early 2020s, when Felipe and Juan met at the Café Crema for a brainstorming session and wrote the first Teseracto Manifesto, published in the magazine CavsConnect in January 2022. Its founding texts also include Coito Simbólico, written by Felipe Escobar Campos, and The Way of the Chud, written by Juan Martin Varela in 2023.

Characteristics

The Teseracto movement was oriented toward both Europe and Spanish America. It adopted ideas from various European avant-garde movements in an effort to reduce the cultural distance between Spain and the rest of Europe, rather than developing an original programme. Its poetry gives importance to images and metaphors, experiments with typography and calligrams, rejects punctuation and often rhyme, and focuses on poetic rhythm.
